Partner Spotlight: Job Training for Local Senior Citizens

The Lansing YMCA is blessed to be a partner with the Lansing chapter of the AARP Foundation, which administers the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. SCSEP is a community service and work-based job training program for older Americans, in which participants (aged 55 and up) gain work experience in a variety of community service activities at nonprofit and public facilities, including schools, hospitals, child care centers, and senior centers.

This on-the-job training experience can be a bridge to finding employment opportunities outside of the program. Participants train an average of 20 hours per week and are paid the highest federal, state, or local minimum wage. Eligible seniors must be a resident in the county served, must be unemployed (but seeking employment), and must be financially qualified (at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines).
