Greater Lansing YMCA hosts White House Visit Highlighting Effective Community Investments

[Lansing MI, July 31st] – The YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing’s Oak Park facility hosted Lansing Mayor Andy Schor and the Biden Administration’s White House head of Intergovernmental Affairs, Thomas Perez, calling attention to the positive impact on the Lansing community of federal ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) dollars supporting the YMCA and other Lansing-area social service organizations putting federal funding to work in the greater Lansing community.

“We are honored to be asked to host the Lansing visit of White House officials showcasing how federal dollars can be put to work to best benefit Lansing’s hard-working families,” said Casey Thompson, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing. “At the Lansing YMCA we exist to provide supportive educational, health, and community-building programs to residents of Mid-Michigan, and we welcome the spotlight on the effective way our staff and team at our local YMCA locations deliver for our community.”

CEO Thompson welcomed Mayor Andy Schor, White House Intergovernmental Affairs Director Thomas Perez, and other community leaders at the YMCA’s Oak Park facility, 900 Long Boulevard in Lansing yesterday. The Lansing YMCA and other organizations in attendance are all recipients of Lansing-City endorsed federal funding—and joined at the meeting in a roundtable discussion of the impact, opportunities, and how these dollars funded critical needs for Lansing.

“By coming together as family-service providers, working with the City of Lansing, we can help both our city and county leaders, and our federal officials, make the most of current and future investments in our community,” said the YMCA’s CEO Thompson. “We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with the City and our other funders to meet the needs of Lansing area families.”
